ok sorry for being new to this I have an iphone 3g running os 3.0 and was curious on how to get winterboard. I googled but it all seemed confusing. I was hoping to just download the app from a website but it doesn't seem that simple. can someone take me through this step by step in the most simplistic terms please?

1. Jailbreak.
2. Install Winterboard.

www.google.com will help you. There's a guide at the top of this forum section.

If you actually put effort into this, you will succeed.

those guides don't help because they don't say anything about supporting 3.0

ok I'm back my iphone is now 3.0.1 but the problem is this: my computer doesn't open the redsnow file. I simply downloaded the windows version to my documents and it can't open it and doesn't give an option to unzip the file. what did I do wrong?

All you have to do is download redsn0w 0.8 from here, and upgrade to 3.0.1 in iTunes, then launch redsn0w and follow the instructions. When it asks you to choose the IPSW you want to use, just choose the 3.0 one and it will work fine. It's that easy.

In addition to what jmann posted above, here is a link to some step by step instructions that should make the process a breeze for you.

If I could work it out off that, anyone can...

ok my problem is I downloaded a torrent file where can I get a non-torrent file?

ok I'm downloading the correct file this time thanks for the help so far, sorry if I'm getting on your nerves
