The Netherlands
Hi all,

iPhone is finally coming to the Netherlands july 11th. (we did not get the first version of the iPhone because there is no EDGE network over here)

Alas for me Apple sold it to the wrong provider :( (Orange/T-mobile, soon to be renamed in 'Online').
I have allways been with Vodafone, and am very happy with it. I will NOT switch my provider. Orange's nationwide coverage is just not stable, and then i haven't even mentioned the hassle that switching brings on.

I have no clue whatsoever about hacking an iPhone, but i would really like to hear from people who use a hacked iphone on an 'unlicensed' network.
-Are you happy with it?
-Was it easy to hack?
-Will it lose functionality i.e. are some services only available if you are on the 'official' network?
Can anyone tell me if it is going to be possible to buy the new 3G iphone somewhere else, without a contract, and hack it somehow, so i can use it with Vodafone in the Netherlands?

All advice wellcome!

Not much is known yet becuase as far as I know, no one has their hands on 2.0 to test with.

I have a jailbroken/unlocked 1.0 and it's great...very easy to do with ziphone or iliberty...

Hi,

I live in the uk and unlocked my iphone for the vodaphone network so i could slip in a pay as you go sim. Unlocking wise i was supprised how easy and painless the process was. You can imagine how nervous i was having shelled out a fair amount of cash and after much research (thanks to the brilliant macrumours guide thread) i decided to use the pawnage process. Overall it took me half an hour to unlock the phone and thankfully i encountered no issues at all.

All seemed to be going well over the weekend untill my iphone froze, but as it turned out all i needed to do was a firmware reset in iTunes and after an hour i was back going again.

I could use all the features available without any problems and as far as i could tell i was on the offical vodaphone network. The intaller app was a great addition but with the upcoming app store will be just the same.

The one issue i did encouter was that to use the safari browser/maps/installer i got completly raped by data charges and drained £10 in one weekend (Granted i spend a lot of time on installer looking for games).
But even when i was just surfing on the go it still added up to about a £1 a day. So i decided to take out 02's cheapest contract and just live with it as i could easly justify the money for the unlimited data allowance.

Overall i am very please with my unlocked iPhone, i have some great games installed but when i get the 3g iPhone i will not be unlocking it and just rely on the apps store for games and anything esle cool that pops up.

for the unlock process it's easy it took me 15 minutes, but her the problem is buying the 3g iphone, cuz u need to sign a contract before buying it. so will be hard to buy it. hope that here in mexico we have the pay and go.:(

works like a charm

hi there I'm in mexico and I've using an unlocked iphone for almost half year and i can tell you I haven't faced a mayor problem just little ones like safari crashing like 3 times and the ipod 3 or 4 times but despite that everything has worked like a charm and about the 3G iphone as far as I know nobody has even tried to unlock it but i really hope it can be unlocked
