Is this supported by all apps btw too ?

1) Open the first app
2) Drag the dock from the bottom of the ipad
3) Drag any app from the dock that you wish to have in split screen mode, and move it directly over your first app.
4) To remove the split view, find the center divider between the two app and move the divider completely to one side.

Only certain apps support this function.

We need a quick gesture that can do this quicker without 4 steps.

It's not 4 steps though, watch the video. It's literally just swiping up from the bottom and in the same gesture swiping the app you want the the left or right side. Can't imagine another gesture that would be quicker and easier/more intuitive that's isn't in use already.

Wanted to add something. Sometimes swiping to bring up the dock could be a challenge especially if there is the iPad protective case blocks part of the screen edge. In such a case, simply double tap the home button; which will automatically make the dock visible. Grab an app that allows for split screen and hold it over the first app, then release.
