How to I re-install from a backup...I don't have Installation CD's!!!

Before doing my Tiger clean install, I cloned my Powerbook harddrive to an external firewire drive using Super Duper!.

I've never done a backup and restore before, so I have no idea how to get applications installed from a backup. Thing is, I split the cost of a 3-license Academic Version of Office 2004 with my former roommate, and he took the installation CDs.

I just want to get Office back on my tiger system, but something tells me I can't just drag and drop the folder, since installs usually make system wide changes(Application support folders, Preference files, etc....).

Any tips on how to proceed, or do I absolutely need the original install CD's?

You could try copy-and-pasting. I doubt it will work, but it's worth trying. Otherwise, you'll need to either download it or get the original software.

Microsoft Office is one of the few applications that can be copied or reinstalled without having to do anything but dragging and dropping the Microsoft Office folder from the source to your Applications folder. When you first open Office doing this, it will go through a "self-repair" procedure wherein it automatically reinstalls everything it needs.

This was news a few years ago when the iPod first came out. It seems that people were taking their iPods to stores that sold macs and had Microsoft Office installed on them. You could just hook your iPod up to the Mac, copy the Microsoft Office folder to your iPod, then copy the Office folder from the iPod directly onto your Mac. No serials, installation, or anything else. All version of Office from "Office '98" to the current version does this

Yeah, just dragging the Office ƒ is a 'supported' installation - it's one of the installation options listed in the Office docs.
