I have a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010) and it only has 8GB of memory. I have replaced the hard drive to a SSD. I am now needing more speed bc i'm starting to use Photoshop on my laptop more. How can i increase the speed without having to purchase a new or updated MBP?

8gb and an SSD should be fine for Photoshop. Your bottleneck for Photoshop is probably your CPU now.

You can always do some research on eGPUs, but this model only comes with Firewire 800 so I don't think you'll find any supported ones. Also I think photoshop performance is much more dependent on your CPU than on the GPU. A new computer seems like a better idea.

Where are you seeing slow downs or performance hits? Look at your ram usage, are you paying out? If so, use part of your SSD as scratch disk could help

You can't - the Core2Duo CPU in your system is a hugely limiting factor. Even for basic tasks, it probably spends long periods of time pegged at 100% usage. (If you had a 2011 13-inch, it would be a different story.)

Might be time to start shopping for something new (or perhaps Apple-refurbished)...

Pretty much not possible, unfortunately. As suggested above, the outdated CPU is a severely limiting factor which can't be bypassed. If the performance doesn't cut it anymore, it's time for an upgrade.
