hi - been searching all over but have not been able to get a lot of info on what i been wanting - so the post.

i have a perfectly functional 3gs on 3.1.2 - jailbroken and unlocked using blackra1n - what i'm missing out on is the cydia app on the phone.

been trying to find a way to install just the cydia app alone - but i've come to learn that i would have to do a restore and jailbreak again to have this installed - but as 3.1.3 is out and apple is no longer signing 3.1.2 - i'm stuck wondering how do i go about this!

as running blackra1n again does not give me the option of having cydia app installed was wondering if i can run redsnow 0.9.4 and select cydia and already pwned options and then run just to have the cydia app alone installed alone? will that work?

also read about custom 3.1.2 firmware - i'm not too sure on how to create or go about using that...am new to unlocking and jailbreaking - trying to gather as much info as i can.

need the cydia app badly - cryin out for help from all da gurus around!

Happy to help. You probably deleted blackra1n from what I can tell since you jailbroke and can't get Cydia.

Download 3.1.2 from here and save it to your desktop

When you connect your iPhone to iTunes, hold shift while you click restore and choose the 3.1.2 ipsw firmware to "restore" to.

yup exactly - i deleted the blackra1n app by mistake.... i tried downloading the 3.1.2 firmware and did the shift + restore - but after itunes extracts the firmware - it checks on the apple server and rejects the 3.1.2 version - as i seem to understand apple is no longer signing 3.1.2 for 3gs.....any more ideas?

It is no longer possible for him to restore to 3.1.2, since he doesn't have his SHSH saved.

OP: I would suggest you try redsn0w. Point it to the 3.1.2 firmware and make sure you select the option to install Cydia.

was wanting to try that - but am lil scared that it might scre*w something up! - has this been done before? - is it safe for me to go ahead and try it?

what a horrible post!

It is extremely unhelpful to give false information, perhaps just stick to giving no help?

guys - do you think this would work??

i am jailbroken and unlocked using blackra1n - using redsnow 0.9.4 for cydia over this will not mess up anything right?

or using redsnow 0.9.2 as you suggested is safe over 0.9.4?

jus bein a lil cautious - still learning the ropes! :)

You should be able to use either. The only difference in 0.9.4 is supposed to be support for later iPT2Gs.

sorry to resurrect an old thread but if I wanted to use redsnow to get cydia back on would it wipe anything on there already??

have a phone that has been jailbroken via blackra1n and had cydia removed but now need to install the youtube fix but don't really want to wipe the phone.

Any ideas??
