How to install Parallels and Boot Camp on the same secondary drive?

Ok, my 250GB Western Digital Caviar arrived from New Egg today and I'm eager to get started. Since I can't have Parallels and Boot Camp both point to the same Windows XP install, I was hoping to create two partitions on this new hard drive and have one for Parallels and one for Boot Camp. I'm running a Mac Pro 2.66Ghz with 2GB of RAM. The only bay currently occupied is bay 1 with a 250GB drive holding OS X.

Questions:
1) Is there anything that would prevent me from doing this?
2) Should I install one before the other for any reason?
3) Are there any recommended guides or FAQs for performing these secondary drive installs?

Since parallels is just a file on the hard drive and not actually a partition why not partition the drive at say 50% giving half of it to the bootcamp install and format the other partition as Fat32 so that it can be a common drive that OSX and Windows can read and write too as well as keep your Parallels virtual image on there if you like. Or install macdrive 6 in the bootcamp windows so that windows can read HFS+ media and format the second half of the drive as MacOS HFS+ and you can still share it with both OS's.

Untitled XP drive?

I just got done with my Boot Camp install, couldn't have been easier! Before installing Boot Camp Assistant I had partitioned the secondary hard drive into two MS-DOS partitions, 70GB for parallels and 160GB for Boot Camp. For some reason, during the Boot Camp install it made me change back to one partition so now Boot Camp is sitting on the full 230GB NTFS of the secondary drive. This is ok for now as given how well Boot Camp is working for me I might hold off on plunking down the $80 for Parallels.

The one problem I do have though is for some reason my secondary drive is now named "Untitled" even though I named it during the Boot Camp install as well as the XP install. I tried to change it from within OS X using Get Info as well as Disk Utility but no go. They say that it is locked and will not allow changes. Any ideas on why this is or how it can be rectified?

In windows goto my computer and rename the drive there and when you go back to mac osx you will see the drive name is changed.

On your parallels I thought the same as you until I setup my system with dual monitors. It is nice to be able to run OSX on one monitor and Windows on the other Full screen and simply move the mouse back and forth between OS's so I actually have both Bootcamp and Parallels. AND LOVE IT

Yeah I would have expected that I could do that but it didn't even let me get to the blue windows XP install screen without wiping out the original partitions I made and making one big disk partition instead. Strange. Can I do any partitioning after the fact? Maybe divide up the XP drive from within XP?

That's a great point about Parallels with dual monitors. I have been considering purchasing the 24" Dell widescreen monitor for a while but as of late I am thinking about just getting another 2005fpw and rocking the dual screen action. Sounds like that might be the way to go!
