i tried to insert the first cd, then i click 'Install Mac OS and Bundled Softwares'. After that my system will reboot. After that, it will ask me where to install the mac os, my external hd and my internal hd appear but i cant select external hd because it stated ' cannot start this volume' something like that ... hmmm ... anyone can help me ?

I'm pretty sure that you cannot boot from a USB hard disk. So there would be little point in the installer letting you install it there.

TMA is correct, you cannot do this with OS X.

You can do it with OS 9, supposedly, assuming the Mac will boot OS 9.

Why? OS X doesn't support booting from USB devices, only FireWire devices.

I know it's possible with an iPod, but maybe only with firewire, I don't know.... With Panther at least..

hv u tried installing on memstck ?

the bad news is, i just bought new usb hd, and the main purpose of it to install with mac os tiger ... but, it seems it wont happen ... anyway, can i install linux or others OS on my usb hdd to boot up with my ibook ?

I have not done either.. I've not used Linux since 1992. And with the advent of OS X I didn't see a reason to. I use Solaris enough to get my fill of XWindows.

i know that tiger is the best, i just wanna give a try for another os to improve my usage with linux ... ermmmm ... need advices on how to install on usb hd ... please ... desperately
