I have a printer driver for a Samsung ML-2165W laser printer (probably HP product re-branded as Samsung) from the HP website. I had to select Mac OS X 10.11 (El Capitan) for the website to give me a printer driver.

The problem is that the printer driver is unsigned. I cannot install it, unless I go into Terminal and use
sudo spctl --global-disable. After installing it that way, the printer driver still does not appear in the Bonjour Printers & Scanners settings.

The download from HP also contains PPD files, which, as a workaround, I have put at /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/, but when macOS wants to finalize the installation I get an error alert that says “The software for the printer was installed incorrectly. Please reinstall the software from the manufacturer.”

Is there some way I can treat the PPD file, so that it will work? Or, does this mean that I will not be able to get this older printer to work in Ventura? It is a fine printer.
