Hello everyone. Today I am teaching you how to jailbreak your old iPhone 3GS.

Personally, I think everyone should have owned a 3GS. I love old iphones, and the 3gs isn't an exception!
Lets start.
JB'ing with redsn0w!
The first method I am showing you involves redsn0w.

before starting: 1. backup data. i will not be responsible for data loss. 2. update your iphone to ios 6.1.6. this guide may or may not work on ios 6.1.3.
1. download redsn0w.
2. go to http://www.ipswdownloader.com/ and select iPhone - iPhone 3GS - iOS 6.0.
ONE MORE TIME: iOS 6.0! Not any other version!

3. when the download is done, connect your iphone to the computer. if itunes opens, just close it again.
4. open redsn0w.
5. go to extras and choose select IPSW.
6. navigate to the ios 6.0 ipsw downloaded in step 2.
7. Go back to the main page and choose jailbreak and install cydia, or something to that affect. each version is different!
8. BEFORE clicking next for help entering DFU mode, follow these steps to put your iphone in dfu. http://www.iclarified.com/1034/how-to-put-an-iphone-into-dfu-mode
Once the device is in DFU, redsn0w will automatically start.
9. Depending on what version of redsn0w you have, a dialog box for choosing preferences may show. just choose whatever custom items you want installed. if you don't know, click next and ignore the option.
Your iPhone is now jailbroken!

Uhm…you do realize that the Evasi0n jailbreak works for iOS 6.0 and above right (up to 6.1.2)? And that there is another jailbreak available for versions after that?

Can you explain why people should use your method if they have a 3GS on 6.0 when the Evasi0n jailbreak is available? Evasi0n was pretty simple. Run the jailbreak, push a button on the Springboard when told. Done. No IPSWs involved.

Lots of people still have 3gs phones as a collector-ish item, like me

Why don't you tell us how to JB the original iPhone. I'm sure there are many people out there who have no idea it can be JB now.

I still have my 32GB 3GS but I can never actually use it as a phone anymore because it's just too slow to use compared to anything out today.
