Seems like the promotions for iMessage touted the fact you could start a conversation on one device, and pick up where you left with another.

Exactly how are you supposed to sync iMessage when your sending messages through your cell number on your iPhone, and using an iCloud account on an iPad?

I have tried adding and email address as an option on the iPhone, but I dont see the messages syncing.

Me too, I don't see the conversation on both my devices. iPad and iPhone .

It's all different.

I think it might have something to do with the settings.

Settings -> Messages -> Receive At -> Caller ID

They have to be set to the same Caller ID on both devices. (My Guess, haven't tried it yet)

The person sending you a message has to send it to your email address/Apple ID.

Phone> Contact> Person> Send Message> Email Address

Well thats retarded if thats how its set up. The iCloud account should automatically be associated with your cell number.

It will be a big mess trying to sync conversation with people sending to your cell number and also to your iCloud account.

Not necessarily.

I had this working earlier today on both my iPhone and iPad. My iPhone was set to receive at two addresses: phone number and email. My iPad was set to receive at the same email.

When someone sends you an iMessage, the phone is told to receive at both mobile number and email, so that the iPad receives the same iMessage through the same email.

BUT, as of right now while trying to set up my girlfriend's iPhone and iPad, the iMessage sync wasn't working for both our iPads. Seems like a back-end issue.

How do I setup iMessage to receive messages for my Apple ID? I only see my phone number associated with my account.

Just sussed out how to get the ipad iPhone syncing so you can carry on a conversation all you have to do is

slide everything to on in the iMessage settings on all devices

Been sitting here sending messages to my sons iPod this is the only configuration i can get to work over all three devices
