I recently decided to set up family sharing with the other members of my household on our iPhones, so we can see where we all are. However, both of my Macs also show up on their devices, with the option to erase or mark as lost. Is there a way for the macs to only show up on my device? I would rather not share the location and status of the macs with them, especially with the option to erase. This applies to an '08 MacBook running 10.7 Lion and a '10 Mac Mini running 10.13 High Sierra. Thanks!

I believe on your individual devices you can go to system preference, Security and Privacy, Privacy, location services, and finally system services and turn off find my mac. This will also stop you from being able to find your mac if it walks. Not sure that is really an issue, unless you move the devices around. Point being is I have used Find My iPhone many times when I have misplaced it, but when it was stolen the find my iPhone on my system was not able to locate or erase it. Likely because the thief immediately changed out the sim, and reset the phone.

Note as an FYI, I tried to erase the phone within an hour of being mugged. POint being it is unlikely the feature will help you if your machine is stolen.

I see. Well, thanks for your perspective. I have since disabled Find My Mac, and will likely use Life360 instead.

you gotta ask your self, would Neil Peart wish this upon his household? perhaps that lake cabin in Quebec, but not the one in SoCal.
