how to kill your MB temps without apple noticeing.

So, originally I replaced apples paste with my own generic white goop which helped a bit, then I needed to send in my macbook for repair so I took the thing apart and put the original stuff back on (i'm an apple tech thus I have a spare syringe of it) but this time I applied the original stuff properly, now I idle at about 58 degrees and it has not once moo'd, if it's at load the fan runs constantly and not very loudly and if it's idle it does not turn on at all.


Moral of the story is apple uses damn good paste it's just put on badly, your likely to get brilliant results just thinning the paste out a little and apple won't bat an eyelid as it's the original paste thus it won't look suspicious.

well you don't need new paste, anyone can do it with a set of jewelers screw drivers, i'm just saying that the original apple paste is very good, everyone else seems to be using arctic silver which is alright but only lowers temps a bit.

as much as anyone elces actions do, apple is not liable for problems you cause, that is the only voiding or warrenty that can take place, naturally they can blame things on people and if they see that something has been tampered with and is not to apple spec they will probably blame problems on it.

I don't think that's quite true. He's saying that because he's a tech he has access to the paste, yes. However, he's also saying that everyone else can use the paste that's already on there and thin it out, we all know there's enough on there for about twenty MacBooks after all! If you've already cleaned off their paste and put Arctic Silver on then that's your problem but for new virgin MacBooks this should be of great interest.

This is not an easy task to begin with. I remember on the old powerbooks, they used to have these little pieces of tape inside the laptop. In order to take it apart, you had to rip the tape. This was a tell-tale sign that you had tampered with your laptop, thereby voiding the warranty.

Plus, any "deconstruction" of a MBP, you may as well take off a week of work

When I applied AS5 in my MacBook, the temps dropped to the mid 50's at idle, but only stayed there for a few days. They gradually climbed back up to the mid 60's, and have stayed there ever since (unless under load, of course.) So give it a few days, perhaps that miracle Apple goo just needs some time to dry out like the stuff I originally found in my 'Book

Also, for the record, you're not supposed to 'reuse' thermal grease. The reason for applying it fresh every time the heatsink is removed is so that you know that all of the voids and such are actually being filled.

The iMac is much cooler anyway - mine idles in the high 20s Celsius.

it had been like it has for 5 days before i posted, as for reusing one just removes some, the paste stays in the cracks and works fine, companies that sell thermal paste say you shouldn't do this but it's perfectly ok.

Call me paranoid, but there seems to be a huge margin for error there.

Compare youre temps against mine, which is actually sitting inside my freezer right now.
Its a valid mark to compare against.
