Any help, much appreciated.

Only solution I can find is the lightning to 3.5mm > 3.5mm to usb-c.

Are there any 3rd party cables that do the job in one go?

Nah.
(iPad) USB C -> 3.5 then —> 3.5 to lighting (APM)
dock perhaps, but you still need two things.

USB-C to DragonFly to 3.5-Lightning.
So what would be the sound quality gain here? I thought any cable in via Lightening is still going through Apple's built-in hardware in the headphone. I do like my AudioQuest Dragonfly BTW for use with my cabled headphones like my Bowers & Wilkins P9's.:)

The cable will convert analog to digital for the headphones. A better analog signal should entail better audio. You’re free to try
