iOS How to make a button open an overlay menu?

Basically I'm trying to figure out in xcode how I can make a button open up a small overlay window, and have the background blurred or darkened. Basically like a small settings window where I can have options for my app like a button that turns off sound, etc. Keep in mind I'm a very novice programmer. Thanks!

Have a look at UIAlertView or UIActionSheet.
