Hi,

SO I have noticed on my OneDrive that downloaded files open with a double-click in Excel, no issue.
But ones that are on the cloud only, a double click just "downloads" the file, and second double click will then open in Excel.

But I can right-click on a cloud-only file and it shows thet Excel is the default app and I can select that and it downloads and opens in one action....

Can I change this so all Excel files open in Excel on a double-click, regardless of whether they are downloaded or not? Below you can see this, "House Buy" is a cloud-only file, you can see this "OneDrive file launcher" is top of the list of programs but Excel is the default - so why does double clicking these files not open them??

Just a guess, but...
... I don't think you're going to be able to change this.

My suggestion is (when wanting to open a file that's "in the cloud") that you just get used to right-clicking on it and selecting Excel from the contextual menu, as we see in the image you posted above...

Aside:
Brings to mind an old quote by Winston Churchill:
“Sometimes doing your best is not good enough. Sometimes you must do what is required.”
