iPhone How to make local backup of Cydia apps?

Some of my Cydia tweaks have updates available, which I am not sure I want. I’d like to back up the versions I have installed so that after I try the updated versions I will have the option to downgrade those apps to what I have now if I prefer.

Specifically, I have a jailbroken 4S, and I want to make a backup on my computer of one or more Cydia tweaks I’ve installed on my iPhone, so that at a later time I can install those tweaks back on the same iPhone from the computer. What programs are available to do this?

for future cydia installs you can use DebianSaver from Cydia, which saves the debs loacally on your phone, the export function to dropbox is broken at the moment, but you can get them of your phone and save them somewhere else.

why don't you want to upgrade the tweaks?

You could also use this method, a few more seconds time consuming than the Cydia app, but it does work (but you would have to do this for all your Cydia installs every time so you could revert)

Shucks. Well, I was able to go to /private/var/lib/dpkg/info and find the list file for the tweak I’m looking at right now. That file appears to list all the files added by that tweak, which I manually backed up.

Thanks for the tip. I don’t see that in Cydia, what repo is it from?

why don't you want to upgrade the tweaks?

I’ve been in the game long enough to know that newer does not always equal better. Sometimes features change, sometimes they are removed, sometime new versions have bugs, and sometimes I just prefer older versions. My home laptop still runs Snow Leopard, for instance, and I have no desire to upgrade (certainly not until Apple adds the ability to restore the original “Save As…” behavior and the Cmd-D shortcut for “Don’t Save”, but those are rants for another thread.)

Most of all I like having direct control over which versions of software my computers run, including the small Unix machine that is my iPhone.

If you are asking about DebianSaver Dropbox, if you use Google, it will tell you the repo you need to add plus everything you would want to know about the hack. It works, just not the Dropbox part (as previously stated)
