i ve been looking over and over it again but couldn t find an option to make my galleries private so that only me or some selected friends with password could see them.

Open the Gallery in MM in your browser. Click on the album you want to hide, and then in the toolbar above all the albums hit the icon that looks like a light switch. The last option says "Advance: Hide album on my Gallery page" Click the box and press publish.

you have to set those preferences in iphoto i believe. i don't think you can do it from the web browser.

Wrong. You can hide the album on the gallery page from the web via http://www.me.com

See the attachment. This is accessed by the icon at the top of the albums that looks like a light switch with two switches.
