I have a Mac mini as my main desktop. I want a MacBook air as my next laptop and I'll be buying in less than two week (can't wait for refresh). So my question is how can I manage using 64gb of storage. The only thing I'll keep on my air would be 7gb of music and it'll be use temporarily for photos. So what are some ways I can sync my two macs. Also, does anyone know how to shrink the snow leopard install as small as possible like by removing different language packs and all. Also, I have to get the base model, so upgrading is not an option.

As you say, do a fresh install of the OS and deselect languages, etc. that you don't need in the customize options.
I don't try to sync my desktop with my Air, but that's just me. There's just too much stuff on the desktop. There may be tricks I don't know of for syncing mail, contacts and such but I just leave all the important stuff on the desktop and use the Air for lighter tasks.

If you've only got 7GB of music on it then whats the problem? You've got more than enough space if thats the only significant thing on there.
I'd like to clear as much space as possible. Ill also have apps. But I mainly need much space to temporarily dump pictured and video from my SLR until I'm able to get them to my main work station. I want as much free space as possible.
A simple usb drive can get that accomplished. Also you have choices like Mobile me or Drop box to put files in a cloud for both devices.
To maximise space:
1) Use an app such as monolingual or X-slimmer to get rid of unnecessary language files and architectures.
2) Delete garageband app and loops (plus any other apps that you won't use).
3) Make sure that you regularly clean up your caches using an app such as onyx.

just wondering, since we're discussing management of the small space of the MBA
has anyone ever tried to install Windows 7 into 64gb SSD? and how do you manage it?
because my cousin is having some doubts on whether to install win7 or not
as the OS itself take around 10gb i think? and if you did, how big did you give the partition to the win7 on the 64 SSD?

I'm in a similar situation ( though I can wait for the refresh).
I'm thinking of using one of those 32gb mini SD cards as an emergency storage/upgrade. Just don't know whether these cards are very slow(read/write) compared to the 64SSD in the mba. Anybody knows??

I really don't have to worry about space, but I used a couple of the apps mentioned above and was actually able to slim down my drive by about 3 1/2 gigs.
air 64gb ssd
i use a lexar ze echo drive for all my itunes stuff and pictures, its a bit slow but frees up space on my air and doesn't stick out the side of the mac too much, i sync a couple of ipads to my air and photos was down to 8gb free space left

External Hard Drive
I have a 500gb hard drive plugged into my Airport Extreme. It holds all my movies and videos, (which take a lot of space). I can access it from anywhere in the house and on any machine. I also have Aperture and keep my aperture database on a portable hard drive. Mostly what's on my 64gb hard drive is software.

How bout Dropbox to sync files between the MBA and the Mac Mini? That way only the files you want synced get synced.
MobleMe does everything except the iTunes part. If you want to keep your iTunes library in sync, turn on home sharing. Make a copy of the current iTunes folder on your iMac and copy it to the other computer and whenever you add new items to iTunes on either computer, just open up home sharing on the other and drag the new items over.
MobileMe replaces Dropbox with iDisk and is able to sync Mail accounts over multiple computers. Even Mail rules, signatures, etc. can be synced. It also does iCal, iPhoto, bookmarks, contacts and so much more.
ha I had similar issues when I had a 11 inch base model, I tried not to put anything unecessary, put most of ur files on your external hard drive. Only keep system files on your external hard drive and you will be fine.
