I have had two Apple IDs for ages, one for the iTunes Store and one for iCloud. The one for the iTunes Store uses an email address that wasn't provided by Apple, especially since there was no iCloud when I first started using iTunes. Unfortunately, I've been using this Apple ID also for the Messages app for ages. As a result, I can't use the new "Messages in iCloud" feature because I need to have an iCloud Apple ID in place. When attempting activation, an error message appears: "Messages in iCloud is not available because the accounts for iCloud and Messages are different".

The question is, do I get my messages migrated or moved to the iCloud account somehow? Unfortunately, I haven't found anything on the web and haven't tried anything yet, because I suspect that a wrong approach could cause a lot of problems here. Has anyone done this before? I am grateful for every tip!

I believe it should be not that complicated.
At first make a full backup with iTunes(!!!) since your message are not yet backed up to iCloud.
Then log out of iMessages and log in with your iCloud account.
That should be it.
From this point you have to use your iCloud email address in messages, you won't receive messages if someone is sending messages to your iTunes Apple ID...
