Hi,

I've had Gemini 2 for a while and upgraded the version to 2.8.4 and it is on my menu bar EVERY.TIME I start up my computer. I never set it to be activated even on the menu level on startup. There seems to be no option in the Gemini 2 app where you can remove the option on startup.

I also looked at users-groups and cannot find it my login items.

This to me, is malware. Never buying another Malpaw app.

This is a 'new' feature with the latest release, and can be disabled via Preferences > Duplicates Monitor

I have yet to find inconvenience with said "feature", but it is disable-able ;)

I have unchecked that box multiple times, yet when I open Gemini 2 again it still runs the duplicates monitor and when I go to preferences I see the box is again checked. I just want the app to show me duplicates in the folders I choose to examine, not make choices for me.

I have not performed the same steps as you multiple times, but . . .

. . . I just un-checked both boxes in the Duplicates Monitor tab; the Duplicates Monitor in the Taskbar immediately closed; closed the Gemini App; re-started; Duplicates Monitor is disabled; both boxes remain un-checked.

Closed the Gemini App; re-checked the boxes; Duplicated Monitor re-appeared in the Taskbar; active, but not monitoring any Folders.

I am monitoring no Folders . . . does the Tab show that you are monitoring any Folders?

Other than that, I have no further suggestions . . . .

Oooohhhhhh the drama. So the app does something you personally don't like but works entirely as expected for everyone else, and you call it malware? Nice.

Seriously? Kind of a childish post, is it?

I was just searching tonight because I had the same concern about this app. There are generally two official ways for an app to auto-start. The first is to be placed in the user's login items list and the other is to install a launch agent. When applications go out of their way to auto-start in a way that doesn't use those two approaches, it looks suspicious and makes you wonder what kind of skanky crap is going on. I don't think that's "drama" at all. I think a user is being perfectly reasonable reacting to an app doing something it shouldn't.

I'm still trying to resolve this issue myself. So far the changing of options has proven ineffective. Clicking on the ticked box only works for a few minutes and then it reopens itself. I constantly battle with trying to reduce or control the amount of memory being used by apps like this. I'm an old man with a Macbook air that's pretty old and would appreciate any more suggestions as to how to resolve this issue in comparatively plain English. Any thoughts?

I ended up deleting it. I think that's the only option if you don't want it doing this.

Curious . . . the Gemini v.2.9.6 "[] Start at login" is completely controllable for me in a User account in Monterey. I can select/de-select it freely, and it shows/hides the icon immediately (and continually, depending).

What version of Gemini ][, and what OS ver. are you using?

Fresh install, Migrate, or [_____]?

Are you in a User or Admin account?

Regards.

I'm not using Gemini anymore as I don't trust it so I don't know the version, but it was Monterey 12.1 (at the time--have since updated.) I imagine I would have installed whatever version was current in late Dec. 2021.

Fresh install on an admin account.
