if an app isn't in the dock in iOS 11, how do you launch it as a 2nd (multitask) app? In iOS 10 at least, it has a very long list of all the multitask compatible apps.

You head back to the home screen and start dragging the app, then use a second finger/hand to go into mult-tasking and drop the icon you picked up as normal. It sounds worse than it is in practice. That workflow was my major concern with this interface at first but, having done it a few times, it’s actually not bad.
It seems you will be able to invoke spotlight and drag from that too but right now it’s very glitchy.
And, yes, you can temporarily dismiss and return a slide over app. It’s not a part of the space though so if you leave the app and come back the slide over app is gone from the space.
That sounds very complicated. I'm not sure what the steps are. Can you explain it again? Thanks a lot!
