if an app isn't in the dock in iOS 11, how do you launch it as a 2nd (multitask) app? In iOS 10 at least, it has a very long list of all the multitask compatible apps.

I have this question also. I like what I have seen of the redesigned multitasking but this is my main concern.

Also when activating slide over (floating app) can you flick the app off the screen and then bring it back by swiping from the edge? If not how do you go about bringing back the previous slide over app without starting the process again from the dock?

You head back to the home screen and start dragging the app, then use a second finger/hand to go into mult-tasking and drop the icon you picked up as normal. It sounds worse than it is in practice. That workflow was my major concern with this interface at first but, having done it a few times, it’s actually not bad.

It seems you will be able to invoke spotlight and drag from that too but right now it’s very glitchy.

And, yes, you can temporarily dismiss and return a slide over app. It’s not a part of the space though so if you leave the app and come back the slide over app is gone from the space.

If I understand correctly the Dock feature is now for all iPads that get an update to iOS11 available.
I just understood from another topic that the old way of selecting an app is no longer there for Split View but does that then also apply for Slide Over? What about (de)selecting apps which you want to see in the Dock and/or selection of apps for Slide Over? Is there also a search feature now? Does the app developer still have to add this feature to their app?

That sounds very complicated. I'm not sure what the steps are. Can you explain it again? Thanks a lot!

Actually, you don’t have open the multitasking pane at all. Just longpress an app from the home screen, drag it over and hold it over another app that’s on the Home screen, and the underneath app will flash and then open, and then you can drag the first app to the side you want. Both apps open side by side.
