how to NOT sync imessage

Hi All,
Seen a lot of synch issues with iMessage..
But what about not having them sync.
Im having a iMessage convo with my wife (iPhone to iPhone) but our family iPad keeps beeping in the other room every time i send her something.
Its a nice feature that the sync works, but anyway to turn this off or "log out" easily ..when not using it on the pad.. I thought i read something once that it can detect inactive devices..

Send her a message to her phone number, not her Apple ID (and vise versa)

Or turn off iMessage on the iPad.

How do you only select the phone number? When I try it automatically reverts to iMessage anyway.

Two ways:

1. Phone.app> Contacts> Send Message> select number (not email)

2. Message.app> create new message> type persons name and select their number (or type person's number)

I do that, either way and it still automatically sends it as an iMessage. Is it because I already iMessages this person? Do I have to delete our text history between is so that it doesn't auto iMessage?

I think earlier I miss understood your your comment,mic you don't want to send an iMessage at all, then you can turn it off under Settings> Messages> iMessage off

Yea I know about turning it off completely.
I just wondered if there was a way I could iMessage this person, then in the next response, do it via a normal Text message.

An iMessage can be sent to either an Apple ID or a phone number.

If you send an iMessage to a phone number it will only come up on the phone.

When you compose a message and you type her name in, there will be two entries, a phone number and an email address. Send it to the phone number.
