macOS how to open input file??

hey im working on a cs assignment for class and im not familiar with xcode? I have to open up a file in my program but when i run the program it says input file will not open. I emailed the teacher and shes not familiar with macs but she advised me to put the file in the build folder which i did but its still not working. would anybody know how i could get the file to open in my program?
