I have two questions:

I know on my Mac that I can hit the F3 key and it will display the window I am using but how can I get it to basically tab to that different window, without me having to use the track pad?

How can I also when I am viewing a document I can see what I have listed on my desktop (files) without having to minimize each window one by one. I want to drop all windows and see my whole desktop.

Last but not least when I am in some apps or screens how can I tab. I try and do it like on windows but it doesn't work the same and can be a bit frustrating.

I am trying to learn some of the shortcuts on the Mac....
 
Go to your System Preferences, Mission Control pane. The shortcut to Show Desktop is displayed there, and will do what you asking (move all the windows out to show the desktop). You can also change that shortcut, and a few other window control shortcuts on that same pane.
That command DOES move out windows, ALL windows, so the desktop is completely clear (and not what you were asking)
Another choice is - when your document is open, and active, go to the app menu, and click Hide (your app), or just press Command-H. That will hide the app and all its open windows, showing whatever windows are in the back. Click the dock icon for your app to unhide it.

Just what I was looking for "fn" plus F11 gave me the desktop. Little different from windows.

No surprise there.
For me, El Cap was a little different from Snow Leopard, so I bought a "For Dummies" book to learn all the new tricks I had not mastered in Mavericks or Yosemite. It's a good read. You learn things that you never knew before, even if they've been around through a few upgrades.
 
Alright last question. If I have my email set up to come on the device and I get an alert on the side of my screen:
1) How can I get rid of the alert as it tends to stay there for a couple seconds.
2) How can I access the notification from the side, seems I was able to do it when I first got the computer but I didn't.
