How do you all organize your iTunes? I know how to tag my videos, just not sure the best way to organize them. I have iTunes set up to automatically organize all of the files, I'd like to keep that the same if I can, but I want to set it up so my music is on my internal harddrive and movies/tvshows are on an external.

The OP in the other thread already had them in iTunes. I don't yet, that's where I was confused. I'll give it a try later once some of these movies are finished encoding and see if I can get it to work. I have a feeling I'm going to fill up this external pretty quickly...
okay, if the files aren't yet in iTunes you can do this:
● move them to the desired location
● either disable the copy to ... when adding option in preferences > advanced, then use the add to library command from the file menu or
● drag them into an open iTunes window while holding the option key.
in either case, iTunes will index the path to the location of the original files but not add them physically to your designated iTunes media (or music) folder.
I let iTunes handle all my music related material, but movies and TV shows I handle myself....but now that iTunes creates separate folders for movies etc, I may change how I do it.
Must say what I do like is that I use iFlicks to tag the files and tell it where to drop them post tagging and also add them to iTunes. But its usually only in a general place for TV shows because of the variety of shows tagged at once and then I move them manually to their respective folders. But iTunes seems to take note of the manual move and maintains the link. Thats cool.

You know that tagging them in iTunes DOES NOT WRITE to the actual file dont you? So if your iTunes library corrupts or whatever, you'll lose the work you've done. (I think with regard to audio files to does, but video...no)

Im an iFlicks man myself. Can't say I've met anything that makes it easier. The only thing I don't use it for is the actual encoding since it seems to prefer the mov file format.
