How to organize photos

I bought a used MacBook Pro and I downloaded a bunch of files via USB but there were about a 1000 older photos. However, now they’re in order by download date instead of time stamp. Is there a way to organize them again by actual date quickly?

If you are asking how to set their creation and modification dates you can use https://www.publicspace.net/ABetterFinderAttributes/v7/index.html to make file creation and/or modification dates the same as that in EXIF metadata.

otherwise opening or importing the photos into e.g. Apple Photos, RAWPower, Adobe Bridge - other programs are available 😎 - will (allow to) sort them according to the EXIF metadata.
