How to organize?

Hello,
Four years ago I bought the iMac I am using right now, I was a PC user (actually used Macs in the 90s) and I never knew if I was doing things properly.
Since I am buying a new iMAc next week I need to know how to organize folders.

In my current iMac I have all my applications in the applications folder, I think that is ok.
But for example, for my Photoshop and Flash projects I have made a folder in the Macintosh HD with my name and inside that folder I have many other folders.
How should I organize my work? Should I put them in the documents folder or what?

For OS X, it doesn't matter how you organize them. Just organize them in the way you want. I like having a clean computer so I keep my photos on Photos folder, music in Music folder etc...

I for myself don't really use the Pictures, Movies and Documents folders, unless applications put their **** there.
I just use the Desktop and have my own folders on there, thus I have them always in view. Sometimes it gets a bit clustered, but a quick sorting will remedy that.

I have folders for documents, personal ones or manuals or anything readable. Then I have a work related folder and some others which change due to different workflows. Temporary files also get moved to the Desktop, after I'm done with them, I just delete them.

Anyways, I keep all of my stuff in my Home folder, nothing outside of it.

CMD + Space is your new best friend.

Put files anywhere and just invoke the above and begin typing any part of the filename.

Personally, I use Documents and Evernote. My Documents is symlink(ed) to my Dropbox account for seamless backup.
