Greetings all,

I'm probably not the first or the last one to moan about iOS 14.7 battery life, but my iPhone 8 Plus battery performance has gone beyond unbearable.

If I fully charge the phone right before going to sleep, I end up at around 10-12% when I wake up even if the phone is sitting in airplane mode throughout the night. If it's not in airplane mode, the phone surely ends up dead before I wake up.

Even the battery usage statistics don't reveal any culprits - just showing 0min usage all throughout that nocturnal megadrain period (0min on screen, 0min standby, no app usage). That's roughly a 90% drain in less than 8 hours standby. IN AIRPLANE MODE.

Is there any way I can pinpoint the culprit of this dreaded battery drain or is it just a feature of iOS 14? FWIW, I have background app refresh and exposure notifications disabled. I also did a full, clean DFU restore, but it didn't seem to do anything beneficial.

What's your battery capacity and age of the device?

If you are close to an Apple store I would make a genius appointment to get the battery checked (this is a free service) as it sounds like there could be something wrong with it.

Alternatively, you could try to set it up as a new device; Don't install any app and don't restore your backup.
Test the phone like this for a day or two.
If the battery problem has disappeared, then you can start re-installing your apps a few at a time, testing in between (do not restore your backup).
If the problem has not disappeared, then you definitely need a new battery.
