I’m at a total loss on this. I go to the sound output thing in control center and it says Apple Watch but the media plays out of my iPhone.

Anyone figure this out??

I always find the easy answer to these questions by checking Apple’s documentation. A web search usually works.

It does seem a bit roundabout, but here it is. I find tapping the Airplay button to be unintuitive, but that's where they put it.

It’s super weird, but I don’t even have Apple Watch as a destination on my series 10 or Apple Watch series 2 ultra

So I had this issue today... It'll only play so far within Apple Music and I don't know what else...but do a power cycle...it just wanted to go to my phone when trying to play music through Apple Music, but after a restart on the watch, it went back to playing on the watch.

So for me I couldn’t authorize my Apple Music app on my new iPhone. I had to open music on my MacBook and remove unused devices. Once I did that it authorized my iPhone and I could play both music and podcasts app on the watch. Weird

I really like the idea of playing music on my watch, like if I am on the go and want to tell Siri to play something without having to touch the watch, however, it ALWAYS plays on the phone no matter what. So, I have to go through the series of steps outlined above which makes it very inconvenient and frustrating when I am in a situation where I do not want to stop and use my hands to click on a bunch of buttons....this whole thing does not seem well thought out.

Watch tends to act as "remote control" for music on my iPhone. (Using Apple Music.) Just as annoying when I want to play music through my AirPods Pro if I am anywhere near my iPhone it will say the AirPods are connected to the iPhone but play through the iPhone speaker. I have gotten it to play through the speaker on the Watch when walking. And it doesn't kill the battery as much as I expected - even when streaming over cellular instead of playing a downloaded playlist like I did on my Series 8 which as it was two years old the battery drain was bad.

I'm in the same boat-2 series 10 watches and can't get podcasts to play over the watch speakers only...tried above...
Supposedly the podcasts have to be downloaded to the watch when it’s on the charger, then they should play.

I was expecting to be able to say "hey Siri, play XXXX" and it would use Apple Music to play whatever I want. However, it does not seem to work that way. I found that if I add the artists/albums to the Music app on my iPhone then I can access them on my watch though, though they are not available otherwise on the watch. Is there some reason for this?
Thanks

I’ve got my phone right next to me, tried playing music on my watch and it did it right off the Watch. Didn’t even ask me for my AirPods or anything.

Not sure why the inconsistency with everybody’s watches here

So far my series 10 won’t give me the option to play off the watch, iPhone or AirPods seem to be the only option

I thought it was neat, but not worth it enough for me to abandon my newly replaced with AppleCare Ultra 1. Another year (or 2 we go)

But yeah, once I cleared room in Music app on Mac to authorize my iPhone it worked without any issues

I was having the same issues with it earlier … what I did to fix it was first to to the Now play app and make sure you are play music from your Apple Watch then you can go to the music app and and select what you want to listen to and will automatically play music through the Apple Watch speaker . For podcast you want to go to the podcast app and click control other speakers & tvs and select on Apple Watch . Unfortunately I don’t now how to have it play music from YouTube :,(
