I have my Hot Corner for my screensaver activated so I can easily trigger my screen-saver (with login prompt). However it is very annoying that after some time has passed, when I login back to my computer (and the screensaver was showing) - it would quit me out of all my programs - and just show a blank desktop.

For example - I typically have my Safari opened on certains pages and left it - and the OS would have closed my Safari when I log back in.

How do I prevent any of these program quits?

Are you logging out? I've never had an issue that the OS X kills my apps.

Open the console app and see if there are any crash reports being logged. I would suggest you try repairing permissions and reboot the computer. See if that helps.
