hi, i have an unlocked jailbroken iphone (still on 1.1.3) and i was wondering if there is any app i coul use to protect the data on my phone in case it gets stolen or lost. I understand that if you have a official i phone you need the original sim card to access the phone´s apps such as contacts and mail... and with another sim you can only access the emercency call screen ?
is there any way i coul tie my phone to my sim card... making my contacts and stuff non usable with any other sim card ?

thank you and sorry if there is already a thread to this particular question ann i didn´t find it :)

That isn't quite correct.

Even if you remove your SIM the phone will still work unless it is rebooted.

And even then if they jailbreaked the phone then they could access your data even if your on an official contract.

I do not believe there is currently anyway of encrypting data on your phone.

However you can add a security passcode to the phone so when it sleeps it will always ask you for that - as far as I understand if someone doesn't know the passcode they would have to restore to use the phone again - thus protecting you data from being read (although not destroyed if stolen).

You can put the passcode on using Settings>General>Passcode Lock.

You can also use boss prefs to turn off SSH so that no sneaky little devil can hack into it while your connected to an external wifi network.

Thank you :) i guess in the meantime I just have to see that I don't loose it... Sometimes the amount of information on the thing just makes me nerveous :)

or you can wait that firmware 2.0 comes out it will have the remote wipe function so that if you loose your iphone which contains a lot of sensible data on it you could remotely delete all its contents
