I'm interested in publishing a book and a couple of of my friends - how is this done? Could anyone point me in the right direction? Would just be cool to do so.

I'm hoping it's similar to registering with apple writing an app and submitting to the app store.... *prays* :)

I am hoping for the same thing. But, one problem is that Apple has to review the book and approve its content (just like apps) before it can go on sale. I am not sure how realistic would that be, because it will require much much much much more time to review a book than an app.

I would be surprised (and disappointed) if the iBook store turned out like the app store. I don't want to buy some poorly-written book that could be the iFart app of iBooks. I think having independent writers submit could lead to issues. On the other hand, the iBook store could do for writers what the app store has done for developers so who knows. As it stands, I believe the iBook store will be like the Kindle store.

Keep in mind though if you're trying to publish you can self publish and print on demand keeping costs low and inventory nearly non-existant.

I hope you hire an editor before submitting any sort of publication, especially if you plan to sell it.:p

No one knows anything about the publication process through iBooks. I would like to see a section in the iBooks Store for independent writers who choose to work on their own, without a publisher.

But have you counted how many "books" apps there already are in the app store? Do you think Apple really managed to read all of them before approving them? And btw, no need to wait for the ibook store to open, you can just submit your book now as an app. I believe there is even a "book app publishing service" to which you can submit your book and they will compile it into an app for you.

I'd envisage it to be similar to the process of publishing on the iTunes music store. Plenty has been written about that on blogs etc including how it works for individual bands publishing their own stuff direct...

i want to do this myself and for a few friends, so maybe the question now becomes, what's the easiest way to be an ibook publisher?

Have you considered asking the only people who know right now? That being Apple. We can only offer complete and utter speculation.

There's no "iBook store". There's the iBookstore.

iBook is a laptop.
