OK. I feel like a real idiot for even having to ask this. But, I've searched and searched...

I'd like to just record some simple audio onto my Mac that I can then place as a track on a CD. I know I need to create a .wav file and I'm guessing I can then get that into iTunes to burn to a CD. But, I can't for the life of me figure out how to record the sound in the first place. I want to use the internal mic in my iMac.

Help, please.

Peace,
Brian

You could do it in GarageBand, or probably in iMovie with a little creativity. The easiest way to do it is to download the demo of Bias Peak or SoundStudio (search on versiontracker). Those are recorders/editors with good features and they're pretty easy to use. Save your files as aiff and import them to iTunes to burn a CD.

wiretap works for recording whats already playing through your speakers, but can you get it to record through the mic? i'm pretty sure it cant, i'd love it if it could. Bias stuff would probably be a bit of overkill if you just wanna record something simple. They're all out recording/editing/multitracking programs. I think SoundStudio is probably more what you want, i think it comes free on new macs... i keep downloading a 14 day trial that seems to keep working. i suppose i should just give them the 10 bucks or whatever they want.
That one's just a simple single sterio track recorder, i think straight into wav format.

Simple? Not so...

I called Apple Care sure I had just missed something. I thought there had to be an application bundled with OS X that would record simple MP3, Wavs or AIFF files through the mic.

I guess that's not the case. I went to Version Tracker and found "Audio Recorder". Extremely simple, small freeware program. Does what I need. I just wanted to record a voice track I could import into iTunes and burn to a CD.

Thanks for your help!

Peace,
Brian
