Recently I bought a second hand Apple Thunderbolt Display (27 inches) which came with several scuff and scratches in its base (please see the attached picture) and I would like to remove/polish/hide them but without damaging the surrounding areas of the aluminum. What product would you recommend for this based on your personal experience?

I doubt that you can do anything to it without making it worse. Presumably you got a good price on that, and the scratches don't face you when you're using the machine. The only thing I can think of to make them less visible is to hide them with some sort of film on the entire back of the base. Look around your local area for businesses that wrap cars. They can probably sell you a piece that you can apply yourself, or have them do it for you.

I remember that some time ago someone posted a question just like mine and other person replied indicating the name of a very good product he used to polish the surface to hide the scratches with very good results and without making it worse but I don´t remember the product name he used. That´s the reason of this post.

It's not bare aluminum so any attempt to try to remove those scratches will further damage the finish. You're stuck with those– good thing they're on the back where you can't see them.

There are compounds that will remove the scratches. But they’ll also remove the finish - you’ll have a big spot of flat aluminum that looks different from the rest. If you’d prefer that to the scratches, a fine polishing compound will work.
