I have songs on my iPhone XR that I put there via iTunes (drag and drop when phone is connected to Mac desktop via USB).
I want to remove some of the songs.
I tried to remove the songs while the phone was connected to iTunes by selecting them all and hitting "delete" on the keyboard but nothing happens.
I tried right clicking and got an option to "remove from library".
It is not clear to me whether this means remove from the library on the phone or delete from my entire iTunes library on the Mac.

I then disconnected the phone from the Mac, opened Music on the phone and found the playlist of songs I wanted to delete. One of the options was delete from library.
Again I have no idea what this means.
I cannot find any Apple help files that explain how to do this.
Anyone else able to help.
thanks
Caroline

It will only remove the song from the library on your Mac, not the library itself. The remainder of your library will stay intact on your Mac.

It will remove the playlist of songs from your iPhone's library but not the library.

You might want to give this Toolbox article a read. It mentions Catalina but will apply for iTunes as well as the newer Music app.
