I have some issues with battery draining on my 7 plus on 11.3.1, and after addressing all the commonly cited settings (background app refresh, location services, etc), the situation hasn't improved.

I've seen a few suggestions about reinstalling iOS, and setting up the phone from new. How do I go about doing this? There seems to be a few ways; there's a few options to reset under 'General' in the settings, there's also the recovery mode method (not sure how it works) and I remember reading about a DFU mode somewhere?

Do I also need to sign out of iCloud, turn off find my iPhone and all that stuff?

Thanks in advance for any help.

You can use iTunes or restore right from the phone. Some people prefer using iTunes when setting up as new, but either way essentially does the same thing.

Via iTunes:

Via iPhone:

Restoring via DFU mode is really only necessary if you are unable to restore by using one of the above methods, like if your phone was completely unresponsive and hardware isn’t the issue, then that’s when a DFU restore comes into play.

You can sign out of iCloud which will automatically turn off Find My iPhone after entering in your iCloud password. You can also manually turn off Find My iPhone first and then sign out of iCloud if you’d like. Whichever works for you, but DO NOT skip this step.
