So I'm running Tiger. I've got XP on a 100GB NTFS partition with only 17gigs used. I plan on shrinking the partition to about 30GB. I've searched throughout the forum, but found no one favored method of resizing a bootcamp partition. I pieced together the following method from of couple posts. I just wanted ask y'all if this will work.

1. Clone my XP NTFS partition (with Winclone) to an external drive
2. Using Boot Camp Assitant (still using the beta, so I will reset my clock back to 2007), delete the old Windows partition/collapse into single partition
3. Relaunch Boot Camp and create a new, smaller 30GB partition
4. Open Disk Utility, choose "Restore" and select the disk image I made with Winclone and apply it to the newly created 30GB partition.
5. Happy days!??

Now I did read that Boot Camp Assitant may not format the partition, so I may need XP sp2 install discs to do so. Is this true? Can I just use XP sp1 installation disc to format--quitting before I get to the actual windows installation?

Also, Is a defrag necessary of my Macintosh HD partition before or after I try this? I know OS X does small ones regularly, but I do a lot DVD ripping and handbrake stuff (1GB+ file sizes)

Sorry to create yet another thread about this.

I got my info from these posts if anyone is interested: Here

Ya I noticed that might seem little pointless after I posted. Thanks for the heads up. I actually haven't opened Winclone yet.

So I take it, that's a yes to my main question...

Use iPartition. Strongly recommended

I just used iPartition to resize my Leopard and Windows (Bootcamp) partitions. It is non-destructive and works perfectly. You only have to resize the pie chart of each OS to the size you want and press a button. Then, the program takes care of the rest automatically.

OK, sorry if this sounds a little stupid, but how exactly does the whole replacing work? I mean, if I'm not mistaken, don't you have to insert an XP installation disk to set up a Boot Camp Partition, but, will that work with an OEM disk, which can only be used on a single machine?

This thread was about an existing Tiger machine with a BootCamp installed that needed to be reduced in size.

BootCamp is no longer supported - thus the need to reset the clock.

If you have a WinClone copy of BootCamp, the BootCamp Assistant can be used to restore the boot drive to a single partition. Then run a second time to create the new smaller BootCamp partition. You exit BootCamp Assiatant at the prompt to proceed with the installation (this is after BC Assistant has prepared the space and set up the partition table). Then you use WinClone Restore to copy the image back to the new smaller partition. Reboot at least twice and you are done. No need for Windows CDs in this operation!

OK, thanks for clearing that up for me, since I had made a bad decision with my PC partition, making it much smaller than needed, so, I was wondering if this was right for me. Anyways, I guess I can try this now, seeing as others have used this and encountered no problems. Thanks again.
