*sigh* I’m still trying to make the transition to iPadOS from MacOS and I am either inept or something is missing. I am trying to resize photos to use in word or whatever application. Is there an easy way to resize photos WITHOUT having to download another app?

I have tried to use this method:

but am not successful, possibly because I do not use iCloud (WhyTF do I need to save everything on the cloud if I have almost 1 TB space on my tablet and an external SDD attached).

Thanks for your help everyone.

I hope you get an answer.

Every time I pick up our 256GB iPad Air 4 and try to replicate what I can easily do using even the basic apps like Preview and TextEdit, which are included with macOS, I become more disappointed in iPadOS.

I haven’t tried to rebuild this shortcut but would you not be able to select the local Files app in the last step as a service?

You could always utilize the built-in iPadOS Files app as a last resort.

The multitasking that people talk about in youtube? I don't know how they multitask, but in MacOS I've got about 10 windows that I switch between throughout the day. On iPadOS....yah, no....let's not do that. Multitasking with 2 windows? No way...but I don't want to vent here....it'll become another discussion and I want a damn answer to my problem.

Nope. The only service available is iCloud or DropBox, not even Google Drive.. Sure I get to ask where to save but only in those 2 services. Whoop dee doo. Sorry....getting annoyed, not by y'all who are answering but how unsuccessful basic tasks are.

If you could show me how exactly to do that I'd appreciate it. I open the file in the Files app and I can do basic commands like save file, assign to contact, print, add to shard album etc. There is no real editing available there - I can't even rotate the image.

I use a Siri shortcut available in the share sheet. Go to routinehub or somewhere and search for a ready made photo resize script. It’s pretty easy to get and works extremely well.

That worked! I have to find one that doesn't downsize the quality so much.

I'm still thoroughly disappointed that the stock app doesn't have so much as the ability to do simple tasks properly (let's not get started with the files app). This device is probably not for high level users which I don't even consider myself to be so the 'pro' monicker should probably be removed....anyway my two cents from an annoyed user with very expensive underperforming IPP.

Thanks again to all, forums saves the day for me again!

High level users will use 3rd party apps with a broad range of capabilities to overcome the shortcomings/limitations of the stock apps (same as I do in a desktop environment). The device itself is fully capable.

Great!

Side note: I’m a pro photographer, I find the iPad an amazing piece of kit. Like any computing platform, you need the correct apps to do what you want. There are some pretty incredible pro drawing, music, photo editing and video editing apps available for the iPad. There are also some more ‘fully featured’ files app replacements.
The thing to remember is that it’s not a mac! You need to find new ways of working, but for the most part you can.

Yup! I'm still trying to get used to the FileBrowser app you pointed me towards awhile back. It's just that these shortcomings/limitations are for really basic items that the OS should be able to do. If there was something fancy like heavy touchups then 3rd party apps certainly make sense, but a simple task like resizing a photo shouldn't be so painful.

Right now, I'm still going through all the steps in the online shortcuts to make sure it is not accessing private information.

How do you natively resize a photo on macos?

Preview is the easiest way to resize photos in MacOS. And depending on what I have to do, I can do a simple resize in Word. The problem with Word in iPadOS is that resizing is done via touch rather than typing in the width or height that I want my photo to be. Again, non-professional level stuff, this is all simple processing.
