How to restore iPhone in version 1.0.2 not 1.1.1

Is it possible to restore my iPhone but keep it in its current version of 1.0.2 instead of the new one?

When I connect the iPhone and say restore it tells me it will automatically update to the newest version, any way around this?

Probably not. Apple doesn't want you to. And Apple is always right.

Probably. I would do it with the internet connection off, so it won't download the latest update, and use the 1.0.2. thats in itunes. I may be dead wrong though, just a guess.

Good idea. But i connected to itunes with no internet and it said:
"itunes could not contact the iPhone software update server because you are not connected to the internet"

I bet the best way to try this is to have the 1.0.2 install file downloaded to your computer.

1.0.1 install file:
http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite...70731.Nt6Y7/iPhone1,1_1.0.1_1C25_Restore.ipsw

1.0.2 install file:
http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite...70821.vormd/iPhone1,1_1.0.2_1C28_Restore.ipsw

Let it download the 1.1.1 update (click the "Download Only" button), but unplug your phone while it's downloading. Once done downloading. Disconnect from the internet.

Rename the 1.0.2 install file to the file name of the 1.1.1 file it just downloaded and put it in the same directory as the 1.1.1 file replacing it. (if you can't replace it, close iTunes first)

Plug your phone in and let iTunes Restore the phone...it'll install the the 1.0.2 file thinking it's the 1.1.1.

I wouldn't reccomend doing this on a phone from 1.1.1 to 1.0.2 however.

You can't restore 1.0.2 if you was try up FW 1.1.1, i was try, but itunes sad erro

I believe the OP wanted to just Restore his phone (1.0.x firmware) to 1.0.2 and not 1.1.1.

Restore

In Mac when you click the restore bouton do it togheter with the option bouton, it will open a window asking you to choose for the firmware, wich is located in library/itunes/iphonesoftwareupdates, choose the 1.0.2 . and is done.

Hold down the shift key and click restore, then navigate to and select the 1.0.2 restore image, which you'll need to either download or find in your windows file system, C:\Documents and Settings\your-user-name\application data\apple computer\itunes\iphone software updates\ - you will need to enable the viewing of hidden files (in options) as well in order to see \application data\etc etc.

After you select 1.0.2 it will perform a regular restore.

Kudos to the iPhone Dev Guys for making all this possible.

I can confirm that this works. I have Windows Vista. I hold down shift and then select restore in Itunes and wallah!

!!! there is a way around a bricked iphone !!!

I unlocked my iphone and i decided that i wanted to restore it to the 1.1.1 firmware. I was running the 1.0.2 version, i connected my iphone and deleted all of the third-party apps i could using iBrick and Installer-(on iphone).

*1. Open iTunes. Select restore to the 1.0.2 firmware file. (you may have to download it)

*2. It may come up with an error (mine did), Ignore it! Restart the iphone and repeat Step one.

3. The error may appear again or iPhone may try to activate through itunes. if the activation doesnt work, Turn off iPhone…keep it connected to the computer.

4. Restart iphone pressing the lock button, and the home key.

5. When the apple logo apears release the lock button and continue holding the home key.

6. A Yellow Triangle will appear, and iTunes will prompt to restore iPhone.

7. Continue with the restore process, when iphone restores and restarts, It will open in iTunes and activate iPhone automatically…
