I have just updated my software and Mavericks has been automatically installed, the Safari version is now 6.1.2, it was 6.0.2 a year ago.

How can I revert to the display of bookmarks that existed prior to Mavericks being installed. That is, in a new tab, there was a list of all the bookmarks folders on the left (sidebar) and when you clicked on a folder, ONLY the Bookmarks within that folder were displayed on the right, if you then clicked on a bookmark the whole of the tab displayed the webpage with NO sidebar. Now with Mavericks, clicking on View and Show Sidebar does not display the bookmarks/webpage in that way.

Now, the way in which the Bookmarks are displayed makes manipulation and moving them very difficult.

After my 8 year experience of using a mac, I have come to the conclusion that none of the changes to the way the software is set up has been an improvement!!!

This may not be the answer that you are looking for - but if you have recently upgraded to Mavericks, then you would not still be at Safari version 6.
Current version in Mavericks for Safari is 7.0.2, and no version 6 at all in Mavericks.
I assume then, that your upgrade was to Mountain Lion, and you have OS X version 10.8.5, and not 10.9.2 (?)

DeltaMac, you are correct, I have OS X 10.8.5, I thought that it was Mavericks as that was mentioned on the update page, consequently I now assume that I am still running Mountain Lion.
