how to save a picture while browsing

i got my first mac today..does anyone know how can i save a picture on a web page?/ just the pic n not the whole page?

No. You have to "invoke Exposé", or something similar, I'd say.

Sounds way to much like one of those monsterously annoying ad campaigns: "Do you Exposé?" "Where do you want to Exposé today?"

And here's a rule of thumb for you as a new Mac user, abhishekit: If you don't know how to do something, try the most painfully obvious thing you can think of--click X and drag it to Y, or double click it, or just plug it in. That won't always work, but you'd be surprised how often it does.

The first time I ever used a Mac (1993, PowerBook 180c), I had just saved my first file on the desktop: "untitled". I wanted to change the name. I spent the entire afternoon looking through the manual and help files (I didn't even know about 1-800-SOS-APPL). Eventually, in the process of selecting the icon, I clicked on the file name. It selected the text and I was off.

Another neat trick is to buy a 2 button mouse or more buttons it works the same way as windows

Just a note to all... you can do this just as easily in Internet Explorer in Windows. It doesn't look like you can because the graphic instantly changes to a "don't do this" icon but it works just fine (although not as visually appealing maybe).

You can also drag a picture directly into a program--Word for example. You can also do the same with text. Highlight some text and then drag it into a doc or onto your desktop.

This really doesn't apply to the topic exactly, but the way Safari does picture "drag-n-drop" isn't ideal. Let's say for example, you have a picture in your Safari browser that you want to save. You drag it onto the desktop and it will start downloading again. In IE, the image is copied from the cache and is pretty much instantaneous.

Hopefully, Apple will correct this in future revisions of Safari. But since I got cable, this really isn't as big an issue for me anymore.

In addition to the above problem with how safari saves images, i also dislike how it (and mozilla based browsers) did not make the files icon a thumbnail of the image like ie does. This gets very annoying when you download desktops and have to open them or look in the preview window to see what they are (btw http://www.mandolux.com has some of the best desktops out there).
