Hi guys,

I am on iOs13 with iPhone Xs - previously used an X.

All the time I've used Whatsapp but I was never happy about the way the Fotos were saved.

If I go to Photos, I have 2 Albums, "Recents" and "WhatsApp".

Is there any way to separate these two entities?

I was coming from an Android and I always had one dedicated folder where only Fotos from WhatsApp were saved, just like now on the iPhone.

But then I also had a separate folder where just MY OWN taken Fotos were stored.

Can you help me?

I just found the option "save to camera roll" in whatsapp - but will this stop saving fotos to the "WhatsApp"-Album as well?

I am really confused about iOs sometimes; I am still slow sometimes when it comes to those details; spent too much time on Android and Windows...

Really hope for a solution, thank you very much!

There aren't really folders per se, it's more like there are labels: all photos are still there in the camera roll and then if you "put" them into a folder it's more like a label with that folder name would get applied to them--meaning that the photos would still be in the camera roll but also would be part of whatever folder you assigned them to.

Hi @C DM ,

thank you for your reply.

I am very surprised now, didn’t expect it to be labels rather than folders.
If I delete a foto from my Recents-folder I received via WhatsApp, will it then be deleted from that folder too?

Do you have a Tipp how to sort it and just have my own fotos in there, the ones I have taken? Labelling a new folder maybe?

many thanks

I would like a solution too =)
Right now I just don't save the them automatically.. and from time to time I do a backup automatically, but it's annoying

There is no real solution, I'm afraid. The recents folder is your "main" folder that stores every picture on your phone. If you delete a photo from there it will be deleted from your phone entirely (including all other folders it is tagged in). It works the other way around - you can remove photos in your whatsapp folder and choose to still keep the file in your recents. But that's no help for your goal. The only workaround I could think of is to create a new folder and put all of your own photos in that one manually.

This option will save all the photos you receive on Whatsapp automatically to your phone, but they will still also come up both in your recents and in your Whatsapp folder, just like you would save them manually.
