The steps taken from various sites to just open an existing pdf file and selecting open with Adobe Reader making it the default pdf for all pdf docs from the Get Info settings.

But what if I don’t have an existing pdf file? Is there a global setting for this even if no existing pdf files exists after Adobe Reader is installed?

File associations are stored in ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices/com.apple.launchservices.secure.plist

com.adobe.pdf for pdf files

com.adobe.pdf.jpg

You don’t even need a pdf file. Any file renamed to xxx.pdf will work.

Well, after I opened the Adobe Reader program itself, it asked me whether to make your pdf files open either with Preview or Adobe. Then selected Adobe.

Easy enough.

Thanks 😊
