How to set battery to show Percentage Left

I keep hearing people talk about there battery being at 80% or 50%. All I see is a drawing of battery where I can only guess at the usage or amount of battery left. Is there anyway to have the iphone show the percentage of battery left (like on the powerbook)? if so, how?

i think people are estimating how much is left.

I don't think it works like a macbook
