How to set up iPhone with no other apple devices present?

So my partner is setting up a new iPhone 12 to replace a smashed XR.

As part of this it asks him to log into his apple account obviously, but then it says it’s sent a verification code to another apple device, and he has none here as we’re abroad!

How do you get around this..?

Perhaps call Apple but I don’t think there’s anyway to get around two factor authentication. If it was that easy, it would be kind of pointless.

Your partner is setting up the iPhone 12 with the same phone number as the old XR, right? If so, their phone number should be associated with their Apple ID.

I believe that once you get phone service on the new phone with the old number, you can get the verification sent via text message or voice call.

and follow the directions for:

"Get a text or phone call"​

I've never actually tried this, so I hope it works!
