Hey all!

I recently upgraded my friend from an iPad Air from 2013, still running iOS 7 to a new iPad Air 2019 on iPadOS 13. All she does is Kindle app and I thought she would like the antiglare screen, and other features that come along with the later version. Well, she finds the new Kindle app too complicated.

I looked around the settings and it doesnt seem they are very flexible. Is there a simple mode or something I might be missing? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Might want to give some examples of what you mean by simple. I personal love the current kindle app and find it extremely basic. Maybe I haven’t seen much change since I’ve been regularly updating for years.

Kindle app's pretty basic and the changes over the years have been fairly minor (mostly just sort and filter). Basic operation while reading has remained pretty much the same as when it was first released (and I've had the app since day one on OG iPhone).

I don’t think there is much left to adjust on the Kindle app. If your friend mainly reads novels without too many photos or other graphics content I’d perhaps consider a real kindle device, return to Amazon if it doesn’t work out.

Could you be more specific as to what is so basic?

Also, kindle e-ink device is significantly lighter than iPad (mine is iPad Air 3). For simplicity and weight sometimes I read on kindle device rather in iPad.

thanks all. she has gone back to her 2013 iPad with old kindle version. Its just what she likes. We will see at what point she is forced to upgrade.

Good point - lighter, easier on the eyes, no distractions, single purpose - e-readers are nice for what they are. I just wish I had another couple hours in the day to read :)
