how to: speak text messages instead of typing them?

is there an app or something, or a way to speak text and mms messages as opposed to typing them? I need to start doing this to avoid wrecking my car! just kidding, but how does one go about doing this?

Check out Dragon Dictate in the App store. It's free and it will write it the text as you say it. You can then copy and paste it into a text or email or whatever you like. It's not perfect, but correcting a few words is still probably faster than typing out an entire message.
