Can someone please tell me the best way to speed up a g5 Imac. It is about 3 1/2 years old. Just running an internet browser takes time with the rainbow pinwheel constantly showing. I don't run multiple applications, with the most being firefox or microsoft word. I have read about increasing the ram, but don't know the first thing about how to do that. I would appreciate any help.

Thank you very much
Chris

More RAM will perk up your G5. Many of the online RAM retailers can show you the correct RAM for your G5. Look at "about this mac" under the Apple menu on your machine to determine how much RAM is installed on it now.

Crucial.com is one of the retailers that can sell you the correct part. Most G5 iMacs have 2 slots for RAM. It probably will be maxed out with two 1Gb sticks for a total of 2Gb RAM.

After maxing out the RAM, try updating your OS to Leopard if the OS has not been updated. Leopard supports either Firefox 3.6 or Safari 5 browsers.

You can find step-by-step instructions on how to open the case and replace the RAM at apple.com/support.

I used to have a G5 iMac and I found these upgrades gave it a second life.
