I know few people here can help me, but I figured I had to post this somewhere and this is the first place that came to mind.

I woke up to an iCloud inbox with hundreds of junk emails in my inbox with people replying all to a junk email exchange. I've been getting these junk emails by about 3-5 everyday for the past 2-3 months. I believe someone got a bunch of emails and just started pumping out junk that can get past the Apple spam filters, and it's worked pretty well.

My routine has been to move them to junk without opening them, because apparently if they're opened it informs the sender that the account is active. But this is getting to be very annoying and tedious, and they hit hard this morning. Is there anything else I could do to stop this?

Don't have a real solution for you. Part of the problem is caused by people doing mass emails and using to or CC rather than BCC. If you are in the TO or CC then your email is available to the spammer once an email is hacked.

I want to stop Junk Mail filtering all together and can not find a way to do it. I check or uncheck all the things that should stop it in Mail Preferences Junk Mail and it does not stop it. Just get tired of dealing with that junk mail folder but there seems to be no way to just stop it all together. What am I missing?

Spam is filtered at the server by most email providers. At the Gmail site, for example, I suppose you could create a filter (rule) that would apply to all messages sent to your email address…you'd check "Never send it to spam".

I don't know if that would actually work. I also don't know what the equivalent would be at iCloud or others.

It will probably never end, as the spammers are one step ahead of those trying to stop/clean up the mess... and those trying to clean it all up and stop it are forever reactive and at least one step behind.
